Mozambique Overview

Following the establishment of political stability in 1992 after years of post independence conflict, the Republic of Mozambique is enjoying rapid economic development. From being one of the world’s poorest countries, Mozambique is one of Africa’s economic success stories, in which mining is playing an increasingly important role.

Due to the very low levels of historical exploration, much of the country remains unexplored.

To encourage investment in the mining sector, the government of Mozambique has established a new Mining Code, simplified the license application process for foreign companies and streamlined the fiscal regime.

Following the recent release of data from a major foreign aid-funded geological mapping and geophysical survey over a large portion of the country, the number of foreign investors in the exploration and mining sector has steadily increased.
